The Project: Day 33

walls, windows, AND a roof!

It's really becoming a house!

Storybook Island

I loved Storybook Island when I was kid. We went every summer, or most of them anyway. It was the coolest place in the world. Until we went to Disney World. What can I say? Kids are fickle. But even then it was still a close second.

First or second, ever since Connor came along, I've been waiting for him to be old enough to enjoy visiting the park too. So, couple weeks ago, we decided it was time.

I still love this place!

And Connor was game to try it out!

so was Nick

hi guys!

We had fun. Can you tell?

The Project: Day 19

Day 19 ended with two whole stories AND closed in walls. I love coming home to find a new house every day!

view looking northwest

view looking southwest

view looking south in what will be the master bedroom. Off to the left is the bathroom.
See where we'll have french doors?
I can't wait to curl up with book and watch snow fall out those doors.

The bathroom. Imagine a clawfoot tub under the window, cause that's what I'm doing right now.

Our bedroom, looking north. Off to the right is what will be our closet.
As you can see, Gimli is already making himself at home. He thinks it's just a really big dog house.

Our closet. It's almost as big as the office/bedroom Connor sleeps in now. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to fill it up!

Stairs (obviously). The window in the background is where the addition will connect to the existing house. It is currently the office/Connor's room.

Upstairs, looking northeast. Will be bedroom #1.

Upstairs, looking southeast. Will be bedroom #2.

The Project: Day 15

Walls!!

And playground/jungle gym for Connor

The Project: Day 02

Future site of a garage.
I'm pretty excited about it. Ever since the roof blew off the 'shed' I was allowed to park in previously (2 years ago) my poor car hasn't had a home.

Future site of the new addition.
Two stories, a master bed/bath on the bottom floor and two bedrooms on the second. Connor won't have to sleep in the office anymore!

The Project: Day 00

Our tiny little house on the meadow is about to get a little bigger. After six years of dreaming, two years of trying to find a builder willing to drive an hour out of town to tackle the construction, and months of anticipation after those builders were found, May 13th (Mother's Day) marked the last day our house looked like this:

When I remarked as much to Nick that evening as we sat on the lawn, cracking crab legs in honor of his birthday, he looked over at the house for moment, then said, "Thank God."

A Future Farmer?

Let's try this again...

I really don't know how it happens. I think about blogging quite often. I just never sit down and do it. Then somehow, almost a year goes by since the last time I wrote anything. But I'm back now. Really. I mean it. For now.

Since my last post in July of 2011, quite a lot has happened. I'm not going to go back and catch up all those posts I've thought about along the way, but here's a run down of what I missed blogging about:

August/September - Nick's appendix exploded. I really do mean it exploded, the surgeon said so. And when it did, it also blew a hole in his colon. One life-flight to Rapid City Regional Hospital, nine days in Regional, and about a month of recovery later, he was pretty much as good as new. Just rather skinny.

November - Connor turned 1. That would have been a good blog. I'm sorry I missed it. He had fun though. You'll have to take my word for it.

December - the holidays. Also would have been a good blog. Bummer

January- family vacation to visit Nick's brother in Royse City, Texas and one of my bestest friends, Katie, in Fort Worth. Also lots of fun with lots of good pictures.

February - it was cold and windy. that's about it.

March - calving

April - weird weather and more calving.

May - see new blogs

There, that's the last year of our life in nutshell. Now, we're all caught up.

Welcome back to life at the end of Eli Road.
